Vernetta Elizabeth Casady was born June 21, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan.
Her vivacious love of life was evident from the very start. As her siblings could tell you, she was always a fun, adventurous kid with a heart of gold. As she grew up, her love for making the most of life blossomed. She became someone that everyone wanted to spend time with, if only to see life through her adventurous eyes.
She graduated from Mio High School in 1978. She lived in Detroit after graduation, then moved to Mexico, and finally found her home in California. She may have been born in Michigan, but Lizz was a California girl through and through.
It was in California that she began to grow her family of pugs. Lizz bred and raised many dogs over 30 years. Many of which were her lifelong family members. One of her pugs even went to Westminster. She also began her career as a Real Estate Agent and Cosmetologist. When she wasn't styling hair or selling houses, she was building her sales business as well. Lizz was never short on careers. She called herself a Singlepreneur.
Lizz loved to travel and experience other cultures. So many of us were lucky to be able to travel with her. Whether it was a trip to the Vatican, driving a red convertible in Hawaii, touring the streets that Jesus walked in Israel, driving to Mexico in a broken Datsun, walking the cotton candy beaches of Sanbel Island, swimming in the La Jolla tide pools, visiting the Alaskan glaciers, she was always excited to experience something new.
In August 2018, Lizz met the love of her life, Brian Sorge. One night when she was at an event with her friend, she said show me the nicest guy at the bar, and maybe I'll consider not being single. Their connection was instant. Although their time together was short, their love was something that could shake your core. Brian had a special way of taking care of our beloved Lizz. He let her blossom and be exactly who she wanted to be. We should all be so lucky as to be loved so completely as Brian loves Lizz.
Lizz's final vacation was spent with Brian in Florida, and I'm certain he is exactly who she would have chosen as her final travel buddy.
Lizz joined her mother in heaven on May 18, 2021 after a battle with lung cancer. Her love for life never faded while she was sick. She did not waste any of her final days worrying about what came next, but instead made the most of every day she had. God's got this, as she would say. Thank you, Elizabeth, for such a beautiful reminder of what living one day at a time should look like.
Lizz is survived by her dad Robert Passkiewicz, who has lovingly called her Lizard. She is survived by her siblings Michelle, Sandy, Andrea, Shawn, Bobby, and Steven. She is survived by her nieces and nephews Rachel, Rebecca, Danielle, Deborah, Katie, Austin, Anthony, Alex, Sydney, Robert III, and Nicholas. She is also survived by the love of her life, Brian Sorge.
You will be missed by so many, Lizz. We can't hold hands today, but we can feel your presence forever. What you leave behind is a legacy of love and adventure that will never be forgotten.
Written with love and the fondest of memories.
Love,
Rachel
