Beloved husband of Janice for 53 years. Loving father of Rusty Martin, Brian (Lisa) Martin, Raymond (Teresa) Martin and Melissa (Mike) Samluk. Grandfather of Philip, Paige, Kyle, Nathan, Kaylie, Lila, Jesse, Kaylynn and Lilly. Brother-in-law of Reese Thornton. Uncle of Calvin Thornton. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Philip Martin and niece, Leah Thornton.
Bill was born on February 11, 1937 to William, Sr and Josephine (nee Wintersteen) Martin in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from the Michigan Lutheran Seminary High School in Saginaw, Michigan in 1955 and then joined the United States Air Force. On December 29, 1967 he married Janice Ray Thornton. He worked with the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Hartland United Methodist Church where he regularly enjoyed the fellowship of many friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 22, 2021 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions suggested to the Hartland United Methodist Church or the Michigan Lutheran Seminary High School in Saginaw.
