Winnie J. (Flynn) Curran (Mimi), age 95, of West Bloomfield, died Friday, October 15, 2021, due to complications of a stroke at her home. Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Pam (David Morris) Curran, Shari Curran, Dick (the late Doris) Curran, Kevin (Betsy Keller) Curran, and Joe (Mary) Curran; her eleven grandchildren: Jodie, Mat (Beth), Nick (Nicole), Ben, Olivia (Chris), Katie (Brian), Justin, Melissa, William, Elizabeth, and Catherine; and her eighteen great-grandchildren: MacAdam, Keegan, Annabel, Bennett, Leo, Curran, Eva, Anna, Ethan, Josh, Jack, Eric, Aiden, Carson, Ryder, Barrett, Dillon, and Islay.
Winnie was born July 27, 1926, in Genesee County, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Elmo and Freda (Robley) Flynn. She married her high school sweetheart, Dick Curran in 1946, and they shared fifty-six wonderful years together until his death in 2002. Winnie was a loving stay at home mom, but she also spent much of her life giving back to her community through her volunteer work. She was a volunteer firewoman for many years, and volunteered with the State Hospital and the American Red Cross, as well as volunteering at Open Door Outreach Center in Waterford. Winnie was the secretary treasurer of her subdivision for a number of years, and worked as a poll worker every year; using the money she made there to buy Christmas gifts for her family.
Strong in her Catholic faith, Winnie was a parishioner at St. Perpetua Catholic Church in Waterford for twenty years. In her free time, Winnie could be found knitting, playing cards with family and friends, or baking one of her favorite desserts. She also held fond memories of the trips she took with her husband throughout the years. She was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Freda; her husband, Dick Curran; her two brothers: Eugene and Orvis; and her sister, Zelda.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 am on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 80 S. Lynn Street, Waterford, Michigan 48328.
