Lauri was born on June 7, 1951 to William and Doleen (Booker) Holt. She grew up on Mona Lake in Muskegon. She graduated from Mona Shores High School, earned a bachelor's degree in education and psychology from Alma College and a master's degree in early childhood education from Western Michigan University. Lauri worked for several years as a director of nursery schools and had her own daycare business.
Lauri leaves behind her husband of 51 years Michael Schwab; daughters Jennea Whiteaker (husband JW) and Hannah Schwab: her grandchildren Christina Raye Whiteaker, Trey William Whiteaker and Molly Faith Whiteaker; her sisters Natalie Morgan, Barbara Holt and Amy Bizzigotti; her brother William T. "Tim" Holt III; as well as several nieces and nephews.
