Mr. Hoover was my fifth grade teacher at Harrington in 1999. I'm so sorry to hear about his passing. I fondly remember his enthusiasm, love for teaching, and the patience he had for my learning (despite all the times he probably had to send me to  the hallway for talking too much!). I also enjoyed when he read to us (Timothy of the Cay and Hatchet are the standouts I remember) and got involved with our kickball, soccer, and marble games on the playground. Another memory I have or Mr. Hoover was when I expressed interested in playing the guitar, he took some polaroid pictures of the ones he had (over his lunch break!) and brought them in to show me (among others, I feel like I remember an Electric Peavey/Strat looking guitar, I think it was blue). Looking at the posted pictures, I can see Mr. Hoover was even cooler than I remember. I'm a teacher now too, and am sure his approach with students has influenced mine. I will always cherish my time in his class, and never forget him! 

I grew up with your dad in Zeeland. Our parents were close friends so we often had play dates in the sandbox when we were toddlers!  We went to elementary and high school together and both were raised at Second Church. Scott always had a big grin on his face and was so fun to be with. I know he was a great dad and grandfather and will be greatly missed. My sincere sympathies to the whole family. 

I have known your Dad most of my life. We were classmates since kindergarten at Lincoln Elementary School. He was always fun to hang around with and could be quite mischievous. After high school we kept in touch at least once a year at the Zeeland Memorial Day parade. 
Scott will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May God's peace surround you and comfort you in the weeks ahead.

So sorry for your loss of this great guy.
I don't remember a time that I did not know Scott.  Growing up together at Second Church and from K-12 at ZPS, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.  A good man and I am proud to call him a friend.  He stopped by last spring with Dick Van Dorp and Doug Barnes.  We had a great visit.

I’ve known Scott for many years and we’ve played golf together many times at Clearbrook.  My how Scott loved golf particularly when he got a hole-in-one!  Looking through the many photos of his life with his family through the years one can see how he had a life well lived.   He will be missed by many.  Ken Munsch

I first met Scott on the golf course with my son-in-law Geoff Legg over two decades ago.  Since I moved to Holland 5 years ago, Scott and I have continued to golf.  We also shared many lectures in the Calvin January Series.  I always enjoyed Scott.  We talked on many subjects with ease.  I will miss him.

I went to college with Scott and Shelley was my roommate. I remember his fantastic personality and love for life.  
I was fortunate enough to catch up with him at the Ravines West Coast Chamber golf outing a few years ago.  
RIP my friend. 

I remember Scott as the teacher of our children - Todd, Amanda and Dane at Harrington School and from working at Harrington as a library paraprofessional Substitute and later as a neighbor in Tanglewood Subdivision . I donated my 33. Rpm record collection for his classroom - he played music and the guitar in class - that was a gift to the students. He was thrilled to be a father . And he was kind to Mary Toppen when her husband was so ill. He was so athletic - he was rollerblading after he retired and he kept up the yard so well until he could no longer do so and then moved. The last time that I saw him was at the Calvin University January Series this year.  We send our sympathy to his family at this time. May your best memories comfort you and May God bless you and give you peace.  

I went through High School with Scott. His Dad was a teacher for years. Saw him at our 50th reunion last September.. was great to see him again. So sad he's gone from us!! Our legacy lives on... but we just don't know when we are done. Thoughts and prayers are with his family! RIP Scott.

My husband Geoff and I got to know Scott as teachers in Holland.  Geoff and Scott worked together for many years and golfed together every summer.  Scott was an amazing support to my husband in life and especially during his  battle with cancer.  Even though Scott was dealing with a ton of different things in his own life at the time, he made tremendous efforts to check in with my husband, encourage him, take him to appointments, and just spend time hanging out.  Scott's long time friendship with Geoff meant so much to us.   I am so sorry for your loss.  Sending you love and peace at this time.
