Our daughter, Aegean Sandra Garner, 33, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 5th 2016. Aegean is survived by her parents, Russ and Dorienne Garner of Davie, FL, her brother Alex, and her beloved dog Bentley. She also leaves behind her paternal grandmother, Doris Garner, a pioneer of Pompano Beach, FL as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Aegean was born in the Hunsrück region (Mosel/Rhein Rivers) of Germany on August 12th 1983 while her father served in the United States Air Force. While there, she stylishly traveled throughout Europe and North Africa while we took turns pushing her in her stroller. One of our favorite memories during this time was of Aegean chasing the flocks of pigeons in places like St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) in Venice. Her eyes always sparkled and they were the same color as the sea which she was named after, the Aegean.
During her 2 years in Germany, Aegean visited more than 20 countries, which set the stage for her love of travel. When we got out of the Air Force in 1986 we moved back home to Broward County, FL. As a child Aegean did very well in school, and participated in all kinds of activities. She was very social and spent hours playing with her many friends. You could always find them playing in the backyard pool. Her Memom said many times that Aegean "lived the life of Riley". Her happiest moment was when she was eight years old and her brother Alex was born, she finally had a sibling! She continued to love traveling, camping in the Florida Keys, and taking family RV trips all over the US. Aegean especially loved Lake Powell and the Grand Canyon where we celebrated her 12th birthday.
In middle school we had a huge surprise when she played Stairway to Heaven at one of her piano recitals. During this time we also realized she had a special gift with children when she became a very sought after babysitter in our neighborhood. In high school she loved to fish, ride jet skis, and attend youth activities at church. She performed over 400 service hours and graduated in 2002 with honors. One of her all-time favorite family vacations was for her 16th birthday and our trip to Costa Rica where she white-water rafted a class 4 river, surfed, and enjoyed eating tenderloin and banana cream pie at the Sunshine Café in Tamarindo.
During the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Greece, Aegean sat in awe watching the opening ceremonies. Later, when we went down to Olympia and watched the shot put event at the Ancient Olympic Stadium, Aegean said she felt like she was at the original ancient games when they did the medal ceremony the same way they did it over 2000 years before. In 2005 she moved to the Boston area with us and graduated with honors from Fisher College. While living in Massachusetts Aegean met Chris Rogers, who would become and remain her most cherished friend.
Aegean became one of God's beloved children when she was baptized into Christ in 1996 while attending the West Broward Church of Christ in Plantation, FL. She happily participated in so many of the youth group activities, such as lock-ins, youth rally's, VBS, and mission trips. She attended several churches throughout the years and was always ready to help someone in need. She prayed, had faith in God, and she loved Jesus.
Aegean was a vibrant, beautiful and funny young woman who would light up a room with her presence. She enjoyed the beach, music, traveling, and scuba diving with us. Our last family vacation together was spent diving the beautiful coral reefs of Cozumel where Aegean discovered just how beautiful God's underwater creation really is. She loved our dog Bentley and cherished her time with him. Her sudden death has left everyone heartbroken but grateful that they knew her. Just a few days before her last journey, to heaven, we had a beautiful family evening together playing cards, laughing, and loving on one another. May our sweet angel finally be at peace in the comfort of God's unconditional love.
