Benjamin Harvey Simmons, Jr. (Ben) was born in Sanford, North Carolina on November 28th, 1935. Most of his childhood years were spent in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he lived with his mother Hazel, father Benjamin Harvey Simmons, Sr., sister Yvonne, and brother Stacy.
Ben attended military college at the Citadel in South Carolina for 2 years. He went to work in Key West for his dad on a shrimping boat, the Hazel Foster which was named after his mother.
Ben served in the United State Army for four years. It was during this time that he met his beautiful loving wife, Hannelore (Hannah) while stationed in Germany. He brought his new wife and her children back to the states where he worked very hard supporting his family. They started in Ft. Myers then went to Tampa and landed in Miami where they spent most of their married life. Ben held several jobs including working for Dandee Bread company, Trailways Bus company, and spent most of his time working at Rinker Company.
Ben was a very hard worker. For many years he held two jobs. He would work his day job and then in the early mornings deliver papers to Miami Herald customers.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years: Hannelore (Hannah) Simmons, sons Peter Simmons (wife, Linda) of Enterprise, AL, and Tony Simmons (wife, Nancy) of Jupiter, FL, Benjamin H. Simmons III (wife, Terri) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Dennis Simmons (wife, Jerri) of Jacksonville, FL, mother: Hazel Simmons of Myrtle Beach, SC, sister: Yvonne Capps (husband Clyde) of Myrtle Beach, SC, brother: Stacy Simmons (wife, Jo) of Donaldsonville, GA, 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren
