

Captain Bob Rae was born April 10, 1933 in Manhattan, NY and passed away May 7, 2013 in Deerfield Beach, FL. Bob has lived in Florida since 1979 and was in the US Navy, was a US Merchant Marine Officer, commissioner of the Hillsboro Inlet District representing Deerfield Beach, Hillsboro Cove Condominium Vice President and Dock Master, longtime member of Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club, a member of American Legion Post 162, retired from Southern Bell with 40 years of service which included Project Manager for AT&T fiber optic ring in Europe and Asia. He was also a member of the Pioneer Club. He is survived by his wife Deanna of 25 years, 4 daughters: Lori Brown from Lafayette, CA, Cindy Jones from Azle, TX, Denysia McCracken from Ft. Collins, CO and Sabrina Woodson from Crowley, TX, 3 son-in-laws, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Bobby Jr. and Ricky, and his parents. A gathering will be held at 4:30 pm, followed by a 5:30 pm service Friday, May 17 at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 4650 N. Federal Hwy, Lighthouse Point, FL 33064. Full military funeral and burial of one half of his ashes will be at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY the following week next to his first son, Bobby Jr. The remaining ashes will be buried at sea where his second son, Ricky's ashes are distributed: 3.1 Nautical Miles, Offfshore LAT. N.26.14.37 LON. W.080.02.27. A Memorial Fund has been established to support our active duty troops, their families and other needy vets through the local American Legion Post. The American Legion Post 162 of Deerfield Beach, FL will be donating to those causes in most need and will be done in honor of Bob Rae.
