David Lee Patrick was born on July 22, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ernest and Betty Patrick. In 1948, the family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. David later returned to Indianapolis for his senior year of high school and graduated from Arsenal Technical School.
David had a gifted mind for engineering, and was offered a four-year scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). However, David followed his father’s recommendation to attend the Apostolic Bible Institute (ABI) in St. Paul, Minnesota
In 1961, while attending ABI, his love story with Shirley began. In downtown St. Paul, David saw a beautiful picture in a photographer’s window. He turned to his friend and said, “I’m going to marry that girl.” His friend explained that he couldn’t do that, as he didn’t even know the girl’s name. David replied, “Watch me!” The rest is history, as that girl in the window happened to be the organist at ABI…Shirley Ann Atchison
David and Shirley were married in St. Paul on May 12, 1962, and moved to Ft. Lauderdale Florida. They attended the United Pentecostal Church in Miami, which later became the Pentecostals of Cooper City. David had a beautiful voice and a profound love for God, and used his musical talents to worship his Savior, Jesus Christ. For many years, he traveled to small churches, singing and ministering as part of the “Patrick-Webster Trio.”
David enjoyed the freedom of running his own business and started a trucking company, “Damon Enterprises.” This would be his lifelong career.
David passed away on October 22, 2024, surrounded by family singing favorite hymns. He is survived by wife Shirley; daughter Dawn Alyssa Patrick Hanson (Mark); two sons David Alan (Deanna) and Damon Aric Patrick (Julie); eight grandchildren Alyssa, Lindsay (Mark Cox) , Mark II, Tyler, Ashley, David, Alec, and Skylar; and one great-granddaughter, Quinn. He also survived by one brother, Mike Patrick and two sisters, Barbara Patrick and Joanie Patrick Antle (Doug), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on November 2, 2024 at the Pentecostals of Cooper City, followed by interment at Fred Hunter Memorial Gardens North.
