Born March 6, 1938 to Cleo and Ulysses McMillon in Bledsoe County Tennessee, God gave us all the most precious gift of her life for 82 years. Donna lived in Tennessee until she, at age 10, and her family moved to South Florida, landing first in Dania. Later her father built their family home on Fillmore Street in Hollywood. It was at First Baptist Church of West Hollywood, a new church meeting in a storefront, that Donna accepted Christ as her Savior and followed the Lord in scriptural Baptism. Donna graduated in 1956 from South Broward High School.
Donna had been courted by a young man from Georgia throughout her high school years and was expected to marry him after graduation. However, fate intervened when Donna met a young, handsome sailor named Albert William Tyler, at a farmer’s market on 441. Donna, 18 years of age and recently graduated and Albert, 4 years her senior and recently discharged from serving our country in the United States Navy, during the Korean conflict, eloped to the Folkston, Georgia courthouse to marry on November 16, 1956.
The young couple began their married life first in Miami and then moved back to Hollywood Florida. Together they had four children, one infant son dying shortly after birth. Although life was not always easy there were many challenges, Donna and Albert were married for 33 years. Donna was a devoted wife to Albert until his death in 1990.
Donna was first and foremost a homemaker. It was her energy and sweet, fun spirit that made her house a home. She was the glue that kept her family together always. Being a great cook, after a few years of trail and error, she began her career with the Broward County School Food Service Association as a baker. She later transitioned into school food service management where she worked serving breakfast and lunch to thousands of South Florida school children for over 35 years.
Once her responsibility of raising her children and caring for her husband was accomplished, and she retired from the workforce, Donna enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Central and South America. Donna continued to be a big part of the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved hosting large family gatherings at her house with big meals and lots of laughter, especially at Christmas. Donna volunteered for the Moose lodge and the South Florida Bluegrass Association where she made many longtime friends.
Donna is preceded in death by her infant son, Timothy Carl, and her husband Albert William Tyler, as well as her three brothers John D McMillon (Nellie), Jerry McMillon (Pat) Ulysses Jr McMillon and her parents Ulysses and Cleo McMillon.
She is survived by her son Albert William Tyler, Jr (Stacey) of Hixson TN, son Bradley Tyler (Suzanne) of Crown Point, IN, daughter Cynthia Reyes (John) of Hollywood, FL and sister Gladys Martinez-Malo of Bay Harbor, FL.; Grandchildren: Joseph Labrador (Kelli) of Tallahassee, FL, Erica Tyler Suber,of Hixson, TN, Shawn Tyler (Vicki) of Hixson, TN, Johnathan Reyes of Hollywood, FL, and Alexander Reyes of Pawtucket, RI; Great grandchildren: Brandon Tyler, Shawn Tyler, Jr, Jaden Tyler, Jordon Tyler, Kendall Labrador, Tinsley Blommaert, Quincy Tyler, Kinsey Labrador, Calli Labrador and Jackson Tyler.
