Edith Marie Days Peterson, age 88, went on to glory on July 26, 2025. Born on October 26, 1936, in Miami, Florida, she was the beloved daughter of the late Pastor Hampton and Evangelist Alma Days. Edith was the youngest of fifteen children born to this blessed union.
She was educated in the public school system, attending Dorsey High School, and later continued her education at community college, where she earned an associate's degree in education. Edith dedicated many years of her life to teaching, and she was known as a firm yet caring educator—when she spoke, people listened.
A devoted follower of Christ, Edith loved her Lord and Savior with her whole heart. She was a faithful member and spiritual mother at Cooper Temple Church of God in Christ, where she served with strength, grace, and an unmistakable touch of sass. Known for her sharp appearance and spunky personality, Edith was always intentional about how she carried herself—elegant, confident, and full of life.
She leaves to cherish her memory her four loving children: Alma T. Vinson (mother of three sons), Thomas E. Vinson, Kenneth Vinson, and Steven Peterson Sr. (Diana); grandchildren: K.H. Vinson, Steven Peterson Jr., and Kenneth Vinson Jr.; great-grandchildren: Jaeden Peterson and Kamryn Peterson.
She is also survived by her sisters Rubell Roberts and Clementine Rutland, and brothers Hampton Days, Garner Days, and Phillip Days.
Edith also held a special place in her heart for many others who became family through love and faith, including: Elder George and Loretta Griffin, special niece Barbara Johnson, adopted daughter Vear Williams, spiritual son Deacon Clyde Williams, goddaughter April, and godson Coury Johnson, along with a host of extended family and dear friends.
Her legacy of faith, strength, and elegance will live on in all who knew and loved her.
