Edna was born in Smithfield, Rhode Island. She grew up on a farm where her parents fostered children. She had a brother and sister who have since passed and she has a living foster sister named Barbara. She was married to Robert Whitehead and has two children Robert and Cheryl. She has five granddaughters, Heather, Courtney, Jennifer, Jessica, Julianne and one grandson, Jordan.
She graduated from Rhode Island School of Nursing in 1952. She married and moved to Florida in 1953. She was employed by Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and had a very successful career as the Head Nurse of the New Born Nursery for 39 years. She retired in 1992 to enjoy her family and grandchildren.
Edna was a loving mother, grandmother, co-worker and friend. She was a dedicated servant to the Episcopal Church and was a member of Church of The Resurrection for 40 years. She belonged to several ministries including choir, altar guild, bible study, cursillo, home church and assisted in the church office. She was an avid believer in tithing. She was blessed with a healthy, spiritual life filled with love and happiness. Those who knew her always said what a kind, loving person she was.
She loved her grandchildren and spent quality time with them. She had a kind way about her at all times. The children just loved being around her. They have many fond memories of her and their time spent together. She made sure to be at all of their recitals, performances and graduations.
The relationship she shared with her children Robert and Cheryl was special. She was always kind, supportive and an excellent role model. She instilled in her family Christian values as is evident since her children and grandchildren are regular church goers and involved in church activities. Her relationship with her daughter-in-law Luz was wonderful and she often referred to her as another "daughter."
Edna leaves a void in the lives of her loving family and friends. Her presence will be missed but her memory will be cherished in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate to know her. She will be greatly missed by her family and leaves to cherish her memory a son Robert Whitehead, daughter Cheryl Strub, 6 grandchildren, Heather, Jordan, Courtney, Jennifer, Jessica and Julianne, a daughter-in-law Luz Whitehead, nieces, nephews and friends.
