She was raised in Jamaica and was educated at the Alpha Academy, a Catholic school for girls. Her first job after leaving high school was as a stenographer at the Department of Works in Kingston, Jamaica, and from there, she migrated to Montreal, Canada. After living and working in Montreal for a number of years, she made her way to New York, and worked in hospitality management. During these years, Florence met and married Malcolm Christopher, to whom she had been married for nearly 60 years at the time of her death.
Florence was a person of creative prowess, a master seamstress who designed dresses for many weddings, proms and other formal affairs. She loved nothing more than to design and sew dresses for her daughters and granddaughters, as well as for her female friends and customers. She had a great knack for making drapes, curtains, and cushions to decorate her home. She also loved to sing and dance, and even dabbled occasionally in a little bit of songwriting. Florence was a longtime faithful member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Broward County, Florida where she has made many dear and loyal friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband Malcolm, and her loving children Sharon, Linda, Mark, Glen, Barry, and Joanne; her grandchildren, Eric, Desmond, Jennifer, Nicole, Shanice, Rachel, Leah, Jayvan, Janlyn, and Lauren; and her great grandchildren, Alexandria, Ashlyn, Jaeden, Jordan, Jonathan, Sable and Tatum. Unfortunately, one of her daughters, Tannis, recently passed away and a son James, passed away in 1979.
Family and friends are invited to attend Visitation on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Metropolitan Baptist Church, 7200 Davie Road Extension, Hollywood, FL.
