
home to Jesus on December 23, 2020 in Pembroke Pines, FL at the age of 81.
Gerard, known as Jerry, grew up in Scranton, PA.
After graduating high school he enlisted in the Air Force and was based at
Homestead Air Force base as a pilot.
Jerry was an alumnus of Harvard, Yale and the University of Miami.
He married the love of his life, Terilyn Mayer, 33 years ago. They lived a
wonderful life enjoying all their favorite pastimes: traveling, wine and
friends.
First and foremost, traveling. He loved traveling more than anything and
cherished the numerous friends he made from all over the world.
Jerry was a wine enthusiast. He loved learning and sharing his knowledge of
wines. He was also a loyal UM graduate and their #1 football fan, even
during their down times....Go Canes!!!
Teaching was very important to him. He spent the last few years of his life
substitute teaching at a local Charter School.
Jerry is preceded in death by: Mother, Helen Phillips; Father, Louis Mayer;
Great Aunt, Anna Lewis (Aunt Aunnie).
Jerry is survived by his wife, Terilyn Cleghorn Mayer; three Daughters, Karin
Vernis and Frank Vernis; Annette Diaz and David Wallace; Connie Burton and
Curtis Burton; 7 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held in the spring of 2021.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at
Cleveland Clinic and the Miami Veterans Hospital for their caregiving and
compassion.
