Carey, James Arden, 90, passed away on May 5, 2010 in Plantation, FL where he lived for 3 months. He was born in New Tazewell, TN and attended ETSU where he received both a BA and MA in education. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Jim moved his family to Sarasota in 1952 where he was a teacher and an Assisant Principal for Brookside and Sarasota High Schools. He also worked as the Director of Visiting Teachers for Sarasota County Public Schools and retired in 1985. Jim was married to Olivia Smith Carey who preceeded him in death and had 3 children who survive; Dr. James Carey of Tallahassee; Dana Carey of Sarasota; and Carol(Randy) Huffman of Plantation. Jim and Olivia were guardians to Helga Helling who lives in Stevensville, MI. He was also the proud grandfather of four grandchildren; Dr. Shannon Carey of Phoenix, AZ; Dr. Bart Carey of Tallahassee; Wade Ebersole of Madison, WI and Megan Ebersole of Austin, TX.
