James Richard Emerson, 79, of Plantation went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2011. He was born in Silverdale, Missouri and resided in Akron, Ohio for many years before moving to Florida. He worked 33 years for the Flowers Baking Company and retired 16 years ago. Jim, as he was known to his family and friends, served in the U. S. Army and received an Honorable Discharge.
He was a gentle, caring and kind person who dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved watching them swim, play and fight and would laugh at the silly things they said. He never missed a chance to share in birthdays, holidays, family cook-outs or any special event and we all knew on Christmas Day he would come in with a handful of lottery scratch-offs and eagerly watch all of us to see who won. He truly blessed our lives with his love and kindness and will be sadly missed by all.
He is survived by his children: James Michael Emerson (Glenda), Lynne Robin Westerfield (Kent), Jon Alan Emerson, and Rebecca Fritz, all of Ohio; Kevin Lee Emerson (Wanda) of Saudi Arabia; Vicky Stone-Gale (Steve), Davie, Cindy Fox (Randy), Plantation, sister-in-law Peggy Steidl (Dave) of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. He also has 8 grandchildren and 20 great grand-children. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jeanette and parents, Ora and Richard Emerson.
Visitation will be at Fred Hunter Funeral Home in Davie, Fl. on Monday, October 17 at 11:30 a.m. with a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at Fred Hunter Cemetery in Hollywood, Fl
