James S. Ruoff, 50, of Fort Lauderdale, Fl passed away peacefully Sunday, September 18, 2016 surrounded by family. Jimmy was the the proud father of Christina Marie Ruoff, son of the late Edward Ruoff and is survived by mother Kathleen Ruoff, sisters Kerry Brady and Kim Picariello, brother Guy Ruoff and his five nephews.
Jimmy was a Long Island native and graduated in 1989 from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. As a Merchant Marine he obtained an Unlimited Master's License and the rank of Captain aboard U.S. Flagged Merchant ships. Jimmy's career as a Harbor Pilot began in 2001, where he obtained a first class Federal Pilot's License and a Florida State Pilot at Port Everglades and ultimately served as a Senior Pilot.
Spending time on the water and volunteering as a dad with the YMCA's Indian Princesses were both great joys of Jimmy's. Well known for his charming sense of humor, generous heart and loyalty as a friend, Jim will be missed by many. Jimmy's adoration for family was admired by most, he was a dedicated father, fun loving brother and caring son, leaving us with happy memories to always cherish.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to "Eden Autism Foundation" in remembrance of James Ruoff, honoring his 8 year old nephew Ryan Picariello who attends the Eden School. Uncle Jimmy was a proud supporter of Ryan's, admiring the hard work he put forth each day to overcome the challenges of his autism with the help of the Eden program.
