

Joan E. Roth-Wainwright, 78, of Davie, Florida passed away from respiratory complications on January 26, 2022. Joan was born on September 2, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Nelson and Margaret Barrett. She graduated from St. Scholastica High School in 1961 and married Richard Roth of Cleveland, Ohio in 1964. Together, they raised five children while living in Ohio, Barrington, Illinois, Westport, Connecticut, and Andover, Massachusetts. Throughout their marriage, Joan devoted herself to her children and family.
Always active and effervescent, Joan was an avid bowler and golfer, and loved to play bridge and bingo with her many friends. She was also a girl scout leader and active in her local church. Her friends spanned the continent. She was a woman of many words, and enjoyed sharing her tall tales and plentiful collection of photos with all.
After her husband’s death in 2000, Joan relocated to Davie, Florida where she met and married Jean Wainwright. For 18 years, they enjoyed traveling the world and visiting Joan’s children and 14 grandchildren. She was an active member of the St. David’s Columbiettes, as well as a volunteer and supporter of many charities, including the HOPE Outreach Center.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Jean, her children, Marianne Miller (Andrew), Joseph (Kelly), William (Anita), Bryan, and Megan Wacker (Scott), her brother Jack Barrett, and 13 grandchildren (Michael, Bryan, Christopher and Matthew Miller; Charles, Audrey and Lillian Roth; Evan, Abigail and Leah Roth; Alex, Julia and Kate Wacker); she is preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael Barrett, sister Janet Dobat, and granddaughter Lauren.
Visitation will be held at the Fred Hunter Funeral Home (University Drive in Davie) on January 31 from 5 - 8 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. David’s Catholic Church (University Drive in Davie) on February 1 at 10 am with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online to HOPE Outreach Center Inc. (hopeoutreachfl.org).
