Kavika "Sofia" Chugh was suddenly taken from this world at a too early age of only 23 years old on Friday, December 14, 2018. She was living in Orlando and had gone to the ocean in Melbourne with two of her good friends to enjoy the Geminid meteor shower which was to peak at 2:00AM. On their way home, at 2:56AM an oncoming driver veered into their lane hitting them head on.
Kavika was born October 5, 1995 in Downers Grove, IL. She grew up an only child and her Seaton Montessori education fostered her love of nature and animals as well as her intense feelings for people. This was first displayed in her desperate request at the tender age of 4 to "Please can we get or borrow or steal a sister or brother or at least a small fuzzy animal".
In 2004, Kavika and her family moved to Lake Worth, FL where she graduated in 2014 from Park Vista High School. Kavika worked very hard at her academics and graduated May 2018 from the University of Central Florida with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors and achieved membership in the Burnette Honors Society. She made many friends while going to school in Orlando and made it her second home. Her less than 6 month career was as a Registered Nurse at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Hospital. She loved her job and truly wanted to help people. She was very happy to receive recognition for her hard work by the hospital leadership in November.
Kavika found an outlet for her compassionate nature as an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous Youth Group and they became family in not only helping others but in sharing holidays, nature adventures as well as spirituality and strong values. Our heartfelt appreciation to her dear friends for organizing the Orlando Celebration of Life and Candlelight Vigil honoring her spirit.
Kavika is survived by loving parents Jairaj Chugh and Betty Ann Chugh (Wisniewski); grandparents Barney and Jean Wisniewski (Chase) of Elliot Lake, Canada; Roshan Chugh (Irani) of Toronto, Canada. The family is grateful for the loving long distance support of numerous relatives worldwide - India, Canada, England, Germany, and Mexico.
Kavika's spirit will be released in a Hindu Ceremony at 10:00AM Thursday, December 20 at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 6301 Taft St, Hollywood, FL 33024. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to a charity that had meaning to her. Information may be found at the following link https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10161168746970082&id=620140081
