She married Harry Rameshwar on March 8, 1959, at the age of sixteen. Leela and Harry were happily married for fifty-six years, until his passing in 2015. In her heart, and in Harry’s spirit, they remained married until the day she passed, and are together now in heaven.
She was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who is survived by many who loved her, including her brother, Bobby; four children, Robbie, Roy, Ramona, and Roweena; two daughters-in-law, Vashtee and Raheela; nine grandchildren, Shivana, Raina, Nicole, Ravika, Czeslaw, Renee, Bridgette, Ravin, and Rylan; and five great-grandchildren, Ashton, Wyatt, Sofia, Iris, and Slade.
Harry would often say that the man may be considered the head of the household, but the woman is the neck that turns the head. Leela was the neck. Together, Harry and Leela accomplished so much, including a successful life in Guyana and moving to the United States with their children, where they were business owners and entrepreneurs.
While Leela helped run their businesses, her greatest pride came from home. She cultivated a household where her kitchen was filled with warmth, fried chicken, and other specialties, and where her family gathered around the dinner table and talked for hours.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 9:00 am at Fred Hunter Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held at Fred Hunter Funeral Home on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with refreshments to follow.
