

Lydia was born in Kingston, Jamaica to James Lawla and Violet Kellawan on January 4th, 1949. She was an only child. Lydia attended Greenwich Farm All Age in Kingston and later, Seaforth High School in St.Thomas from which she graduated. On July 18th, 1964, she married her life-time love Azim Beharrie.
Lydia worked as a key punch operator at Watson’s Off Course Betting Ltd for 20 years. From 1990 to 2005, she worked as a supervisor at Chase Manhattan Bank, and then as an Office Manager at AAGA Medical until the time of her passing. Lydia was an integral part of the Jamaican Indian community both in Jamaica and in South Florida.
Lydia is preceded in death by her father James and mother Violet. She is survived by her husband Azim; her sons Ashraf and Nazir; her daughters Lisa, Marie, Diane and Patricia; her grandchildren Ashmin, Alejandra and Asif, and great grandchildren Dorian and Blaine.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 9:00AM on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 6301 Taft St. Hollywood, Florida 33024.
