

Nellie was born in Gifford, FL to Nella Kennedy and Johnny Huey on June 14, 1935. She was the fourth of eight children. She went to Gifford High School. She worked as a Domestic Engineer for over 35 years. She was a member of Words of Life Fellowship Church since 1980, where she volunteered in the nursery caring for the babies.
Nellie was known for her Hard-Nosed Truth and Sharp Tongue!! She didn't Play the Radio or Sugar Coat the truth for anyone, but was still loved by all! To the outsider, you couldn't tell if she had 11 Grand Children or 1100. She was Grammy Nell to her entire Community!!
She was such an Amazing Story Teller!! If you have ever chatted with her you know everything about her Childhood Home and the People and Places that made it come to Life!! From Nella and Johnny, to the Pool Room her Dad owned, to Club Alley, and The Green Leaf Bar... Nellie Lived Life!
Know for her outlandish Childhood Stories, her First Teen Love, her Juicy early 20's Rendezvous, her be a Standup woman and make it count 30's, and her loving Motherly Twilight years! She truly lived a life full enough for 10 women!!
As a Grandmother she was Granny to some and Grammy to the others!!
At Grammy Nell's house it was never too late for pancakes or eggs and definitely never to early for oatmeal. It was never to Hot for a cup of Tea and no child was too young for a cup of coffee. From Aloe to Ginger and Garlic to Cod Liver Oil, her children would consume it all.
One thing that Nellie Beatrice Grimes could be heard saying over and over, day after day is "I love all my children. I don't have any dumb children and I don't have any ugly children!"
Nellie is survived by her children Cynthia Pratt, Harriet Campbell, Vicki Collins (George), Siblings Julius Baker (Dorothy), Louise Barron (Robert), Rudolph Huey (Rebecca), Grandchildren Kimberly Jackson, Stacy Cliett, Lia Alexis (Eric), Nicole Pratt, Susan Pratt, Christopher Cliett, Jeremy Cliett, Sharon Pratt, Caleb Collins, Joel Collins, Niela Collins, Great Grand Children: Jazmyne Shaw (Gabriel), Avery Jackson, Brian Williams, Mackenzie Thornton, Nia Cliett, Madison Alexis, Preston Pratt, Christopher Cliett II, Morgan Alexis. Great-Great Grandchildren Logan Shaw. As well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her Funeral Service will be Friday, October 12th, 2018 from 5:00pm- 6:30pm.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 pm Friday October 12th, 2018 at Fred Hunters Funeral Home with Pastor Marcus Ramirez officiating. Arrangements are by Denise Barron Pierre.
