Opal will be missed by everyone she knew; it was difficult not to love her once meeting her. She was a loving mother, beloved grandmother, and wonderful friend. Most people would describe Opal as hardworking, compassionate, friendly, loving, and above all, kind.
In 1924, Opal, the eldest of six children, was born in Cordova, Alabama to Elliot and Bessy Jones. When Opal was 3 years old the family relocated to Jackson, Mississippi to become cotton sharecroppers. Opal attended school and helped the family's cotton business until 1945 when the U.S. joined the war and she moved to Miami, Florida to work as a telephone operator for Bell South. Within two years of living in Florida a blind date lead to her marriage to Fred L. Tutt Jr. Their wonderful marriage brought the birth of her only son, Fred L. Tutt III. Sadly, Opal was widowed in 1967. Years later she married again to Thomas Snyder. After years of marriage Thomas also passed away, at which time Opal decided to move to Davie to be closer to her son and two grandchildren. She has been a Davie resident ever since.
Opal loved spending time with her family, going on cruises with her friend John, volunteering at soup kitchens, making dolls for children fighting cancer, visiting with neighbors and friends, and working outside in the yard pulling weeds.
Opal's life and legacy are nothing short of extraordinary. She put love and kindness into every aspect of her life and lived that way until the end. Opal is greatly missed and survived by her son Fred, his wife Diane, and her two grandchildren Katie and Michael. She will also be greatly missed by her main caregiver of the last three years, Flossie, as well as all the friends and neighbors she left behind.
