

Oscar del Risco, Jr., 82 years old, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, passed away peacefullyat his home surrounded by family on August 16th, 2020.Oscar or Welo as his grandchildren liked to call him was born in Camaguey, Cuba onOctober 11th, 1937, and migrated to the United State in 1968 Oscar moved with hisfamily to Hartford and later to Windsor Connecticut where he lived for 43 years beforeretiring and moving to Pembroke Pines.Oscar was married to Gualmesia a/k/a Yolanda Alvarez on August 23. 1961; they weremarried nearly 60 years.Oscar’s family owned Rancho Hato Potrero in Camaguey Cuba. Oscar worked for ashort time at United Technologies, and as a dishwasher at G Fox & Co. in Hartford, buthe was an entrepreneur at heart and quickly started his own business. He owned LaIsla Furniture, and La Isla Supermarkets #1 & 2 in Hartford, Ct, He sold thosebusinesses and started investing in real estate. He would handle most of his landlordtenant issues in court without an attorney, if something broke he would fix it, there wasno need to call the guy. He was a tough guy with a soft heart. A real inspiration to all ofus. He enjoyed fishing, traveling around the world with his wife and friends, and a goodgame of poker or dominoes for fun. Oscar was a great lover of animals, and was oftencaught slipping treats under the table to all of the family dogs. When he wasn’t sneakingtreats to the dogss, he would be sneaking chocolate for himself. We hope Oscar isenjoying a game of dominos with unlimited lobster, pig roasts, and chocolate.Oscar is survived by his wife Gualmesia, his daughter Marie del Risco and her husbandStephen Berrelli, his daughter Clara del Risco and her husband Omar Chavez, hisgranddaughter Christina Siegel and her husband David Siegel, his granddaughterJessica DeFreitas, his granddaughter Alexis Chavez, and his grandson StephenBerrelli, Jr. as well as his sister Maria Estela Pena, his Niece Maria Elena Romero, herhusband Mike Romero and his nephew Eddie Pena, and his partner Crystal Storo.Oscar had a special place in his heart for Martin Hood, whom he considered family.Oscar is preceded in death by his father Oscar del Risco Sr., and his mother AuroraPerez-del Risco and his great grandmother Esperanza Catala-Perez-SanchezIn lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Amreican HeartAssociation.
