Rene Emmanuel Saget

He was born in Petite Rivire de L'Artibonite, Haiti, on January 4, 1933 to the late Voltaire Saget and Henricia Charlostin. After his father's death in 1958, Rene had to leave school much earlier than he wanted, in order to work to support his mother and sisters. In 1959, he married Solange Saget (ne Remy). In 1978 he immigrated to New York in order to better his family's lives, but his heart always belonged to his beloved Haiti.

Rene was a beloved and cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was our inspiration, and our friend. He had a strong presence which commanded respect. He made no excuses and he was strong. He valued education and stressed its importance to his children. He enjoyed the outdoors and on any given day would be found walking, whether in Florida, New York or in Haiti. He was passionate about Haitian politics and longed to see better days for his beloved homeland, Haiti.

We ask that you watch over us and guide us along this path of life. Guide us as we work hard to achieve the goals we've set for ourselves in your honor. Watch over us as we awake each and every day to continue and grow your legacy. We will settle for nothing but the best and deal with all the worst that may come our way.

Rene is survived by his wife Solange and his seven children; Phillip Nicolas Saget, Mr. & Mrs. Mark Michael Stevens (Josiane Saget), Mr. & Mrs. Darryl Bowden (Roselyne Saget), Mr. & Mrs. Jean Saget, Mr. & Mrs. Winston Walker (Pascale Saget), Ms. Marie P. Saget, Mr. & Mrs. Anthony Cunningham (Joanne Saget). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Sasha Townes, Joshua Stevens, Anthony Cociffi, Jordan Stevens, Adrian Walker, Aamani Saget and Jonathan Bowden; two surviving siblings, Marie Therese Dorsainvil and Emile Dorelus. His brothers and sisters in law, Gisele Remy and family, Jean Claude Remy and family, Pierre Remy and family, Marie Jose Cotiere and family, Mr. & Mrs. Frantz Desir (Michele) and family, Yanick Remy and family and Gabrielle Timmer and family.
