Born and raised in Union Grove, Wisconsin, Rod grew up outdoors camping, fishing and hunting.
In 1966 Rod was drafted into the armed services, choosing to serve in the Marines. He met his first wife, Georgetta during basic training. They would later marry and raise three children together. After his military service, Rod began his professional journey in sales with Johnson Wax before transitioning into the cable television industry—a field where he would leave a lasting legacy.
Rod joined Cable Data where he grew the company’s revenue exponentially and rose to the position of Vice President. He was committed to helping develop the cable television industry serving for three years as a Director on the National Cable Television Association. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found WestStar Communications, a multi-system cable operator in California. Through WestStar, Rod developed infrastructure in under-served communities, bringing the world to their door.
From California, Rod’s ventures took him to France, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands which became his new home. A true Pioneer, Rod’s introduction of cable television to the Cayman Islands brought a new era of connectivity and media access to the islands. His contributions to the islands’ development earned him a Certificate and Badge of Honour in 2011.
In addition to his professional contributions, Rod embraced the spirit of community. He spearheaded and supported a wide range of events from community service awards to hurricane relief and scholarship initiatives.
Rod was just as busy outside of work, becoming a certified scuba diver, getting his private pilot’s license, and spending summers boating with his family. He also enjoyed several recreational sports from golf and racquetball to skiing and snowmobiling.
Rodney is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Jackie Hansen of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; his children Ericka Bryant (Walt Wendelstein) of Moorpark, CA, Vanessa Hansen Allott (David Allott) of Savannah, Cayman Islands, and Brent Hansen (Agnes Hansen) of Elk Grove, CA; his cherished grandchildren Lachlan Allott and Lila Allott of Savannah, Cayman Islands; and his brothers Lowell Hansen of Hartland, Wisconsin and Norm Hansen of Sugar Camp, Wisconsin.
