He worked for a brief time for the New York Times but after moving to Florida he taught history in local high schools until he was forced to retire after developing Multiple Sclerosis.
He is survived by his daughter Maria Nieves, brothers Rev. Dr. Alvaro Nieves and Donald A. Nieves and his skilled and loving caregiver of 20 years, Lorraine Mykytka. He is also survived by two loving aunts: Olga DeFabia and Major Esmeralda Lescano.
Ron always enjoyed reading and was a voracious reader all his life. He constantly read the Bible and American History, often combining the two as with devotional readings by Abraham Lincoln.
