She was born on March 10, 1924, to the late Dorcas Little and Thomas Collins in St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies. “Ruby” as she was affectionately referred to as by family and friends lived a long and fulfilling life as a dedicated and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and businesswoman. Ruby was a trailblazer in her younger days as one of the early members of the Jamaican Labour Party and an influential member of the Jamaica Tourist Board where she diligently worked to help make Jamaica a desired tourist destination.
Ruby especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many of whom she raised. We fondly remember many days and nights of her telling us stories, feeding us her world-famous chicken soup, and giving us plenty of her love and support.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Egbert S. Robinson, her mother Dorcas Little, her father Thomas Collins, her grandson Samuel Forbes, and her brothers and sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Charles); grandchildren, Geoffrey Robinson, Steven Forbes (Sunshine), Stephanie Forbes; great-grandchildren, Dwayne, Temirah, Samaia, Cayden, Cameron, and Caleb; her cousin, Ivy Kong, and several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 27th 2022, from 12pm to 2pm at 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024. Burial will follow at Hollywood Memorial Gardens East.
The family of Rubena Robinson wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Aventura Rehab and Nursing Center, VITAS Hospice Care, Dorothy, Rosie, and all the other nurses and doctors that took care of her and helped to ease her transition.
