Steven F Nickerson

Steven was born in Haskell, Texas, to Francis Corwin Nickerson and Cressie (Kryss) Gae Stevenson Nickerson on November 15, 1948. He graduated in 1967 from Southwestern Heights High School a consolidated high school between the farming communities of Kismet and Plains, Kansas. He served as Director of Benefits, and then CEO for the American Maritime Officers Plans, in Dania Beach, over his almost 29 year career (1996 - 2025). He was a Vietnam Era Army veteran, serving in Germany in the Army, as an actor performing for wounded vets and making hospital visits to encourage and listen to the injured. It was in this environment that he met Christina Miller, of Denver, Colorado, whom he later married. Steve was a Karuna Reiki Master and was involved in that religious community for the past 15 years. He also contributed for building playgrounds, schools and other facilities in the Maya town of Kaua, Yucatán, as well as establishing a plant sanctuary for indigenous medicinal plants available to the Maya Medicine People.

Steven is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Deborah Gae Brightbill and Barbara Lyn Hamel, and by his son, James Steven Nickerson.

Steven is survived by his former wife, Christina Miller Nickerson, his daughter, Lea Christine Nickerson, his son-in-law, James Reason, one grandson, Noah Nickerson Reason, and one brother, Corwin Alan Nickerson.

Arrangements are by Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home and a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 5:00 - 7:30 pm, Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 6301 Taft St, Hollywood, FL 33024.

Steve’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful team of doctors and end of life caregivers who treated him with such compassion and dignity and truly honored his final wishes.
