Sugrim Seewah, 79, from Plantation, Florida, passed away on February 19, 2025. Born on June 9, 1945 in Guyana, he was a loving husband to Barbara for over 55 years and a devoted father to Robin and Neila.
Sugrim immigrated from Guyana to London with his family to pursue a college scholarship. The family lived in London for many years as he earned his degree and started his career. The family then moved to New York where he received his master’s in accounting and enjoyed a career in accounting and banking. The Florida sunshine beckoned after a number of years and Sugrim and Barbara put down roots in Plantation, Florida. It was here that he started a small business and expanded his community of loving and devoted friends.
Sugrim’s hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed music, especially classical Indian music. He sang and taught himself the drums and keyboards to perform for family and friends. He was a creative and passionate cook. Always researching new recipes and making a mess in the kitchen;) A small price for the delicious pastas and curries he made for everyone to enjoy. Sugrim left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Whether it was because he shared his very decisive opinion on something;) or because he would come up with creative ways to solve your problem, he was a presence and left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Wise and always strong, he fought valiantly against cancer and so many other physical challenges in recent years. His spirited strength was especially seen this past year. Our amazing lord decided to ease his suffering and the peace he now enjoys is a consolation in our broken hearts. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his daughter, Neila, his grandson Zane, Son-in-law Russell and countless beloved nieces, nephews and friends that will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Fred Hunter Hollywood Funeral Home 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, Florida 33024 at 10:00am for the funeral service. After the service the family will be hosting refreshments and lunch at 1:30pm (Reception Details to come.) In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be made to cancer research.
