He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 9, 1929, the son of Leo and Irene Weiss.
Loving father of Kathleen, Richard and James, he was preceded in death by his lifelong wife, Lois J. Weiss. He is survived by his brothers, Raymond and Richard, of Chicago Il. Thomas was also the proud grandfather of 7, and great-grandfather of 3.
Thomas served in the U.S. army during the Korean war, achieving the rank of sergeant, and completed his duty with honorable discharge. From a young age, he developed a passion for music and playing trombone, a skill that he was able to enjoy for over 70 years. When the army obligation was fulfilled, he was able to return to music.
Thomas met Lois, a vocalist, in the band as they were traveling the country in the early 1950’s. They fell in love and married on February 14, 1956. They settled in Chicago, the home town of Thomas, but continued performing into the 1990’s, primarily throughout Chicago area ballrooms. Music was their passion, their bond, their life inspiration.
In the mid-2000 years, they began spending winters in South Florida, following their children to the sunshine state. They eventually remained in Miramar, Florida full time.
Thomas is remembered as a man with an incredible work ethic, generous and sacrificing, and a duty to teach right from wrong. His advice, and words of wisdom carry strong today, and we have lost a true leader. He also had a great sense of humor, the laughs and good times will be cherished forever.
A private burial will occur on Thursday, April 2, 2020. There will be no viewing, and memorial activities are postponed for now.
