

Tony was born November 28, 1954, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to Othella Geneva King and Ance Vernon King. He was raised in Riviera Beach, Florida, having graduated from Suncoast High School (Class of 1972) and then Florida A&M University (Class of 1976). He also received his Master's degree from Nova Southeastern in 1987.
On January 2, 1988, Tony married the love of his life, Patricia Rowe-King, M.D, in Kingston, Jamaica.
In his professional career, Tony was a nationally-recognized psychologist, certified addiction professional, licensed medical health counselor, and substance abuse treatment professional. Tony spent his 40+ year career working as Clinical Director for the Drug Abuse Treatment Association (DATA) and the Drug Abuse Foundation, and as the Chief Executive Officer for John's Place. In retirement, Tony served as a professor, therapist, and trainer through his own company, Tony King and Associates.
Tony was heavily involved with Holy Sacrament Church as a dutiful usher and the Vice President of the Men’s group until the date of his death. At church, with the help of a social worker, Tony launched the Holy Sacrament Peer Support Groups and Grief Support Groups.
Tony was also actively involved with the Suncoast High School Class of 1972 Reunion Committee. Having been a high school track star, Tony was the consummate sportsman.He set high school track records for the sprint medley and the 100yd dash, holding high school records to this day. He was an avid runner, completing 10 different marathons and earning medals in multiple recent 5k races. In the later years of his life, Tony excelled as a pickleball player at the Hawks Landing and Central Park Pickleball clubs.
Tony is preceded in death by his father, Ance Vernon King, mother, Othella Geneva King, brothers, Ance King Jr., and Anthony Derrick ‘Duke’ King.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Patricia Rowe-King, M.D; sons: Torrance Lawery (Hope), Troy King (Alix), and Jordan King; daughter: Mya King (Nate); brothers: Bonzie V. King (Shirley), Robert King (Dorothy); sisters: Shabarbara King (Larry), and Pansy Prince; granddaughters: Taraja Lawery, Chani Lawery, and Celeste King; sister-in-law: Shryl King; aunts: Dorothea Phillips, and a host of other aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:00am, at Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church, 2801 N University Drive, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fred Hunter Funeral Home.
