Vera Marie Carmona

Carmona, Vera Marie (Jones), age 89 of Fort Lauderdale, passed away on Feb.22, 2012 at her home. Vera was born in Connellsville, PA, the daughter of Samuel H. and Harriet M. Jones. She is survived by her brother, Malcolm and sister-in-law Eppie Jones. Vera was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Dr. Manuel G. Carmona, her brother Kenneth and sister-in-law Jean. She will be lovingly missed by her three daughters, Mary Ann Wilkinson, (John, McLean, VA), Barbara Iacino, (Clifford, Fort Lauderdale) and Virginia Goodson (John, Houston, TX). Grandchildren Christine Statton, her husband Mac Statton, Carolyn Goodson, and Joseph Iacino, as well as great grandchildren Nia and Cai Statton, nephew Richard Longworth, his wife Anne-Marie and daughter Brittany of Deerfield; and nephew Robert Carmona, his daughter Joan and her family of Hollywood; along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews, most of whom reside in PA, NJ, and Puerto Rico.

Vera was an R.N. who worked as a maternal-child health nurse for the School and Nursing Public Health Service in Salem County, NJ while her husband served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Burma during World War II. Following his discharge, they lived in Rochester, MN (Mayo Clinic) Gainesville, FL (Shands) and Beach Haven, NJ (private practice) before moving to Broward County, FL in 1951. In addition to taking loving care of her family, she was active in the Broward County Medical Women's Auxiliary, the Hallandale Garden Club and Women's Power Squadron before retiring. Following retirement, she and her husband lived in Maggie Valley, NC, Key Colony Beach and Deerfield Beach before moving to Fort Lauderdale.

In particular, the family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to Jeanie Y. Mumford, C.N.A. for her kind and loving care of Vera in her final years.

Funeral services will be held at Fred Hunter's, 718 S. Federal Hwy, Ft. Lauderdale, 10:30am to 12pm on Saturday, Feb. 25. A private burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
