

Vivia Monica Barrett, 90, of Lauderhill, Florida, passed away on January 31, 2024 in Tamarac, Florida. Vivia was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica to Gladys Pyne and Peter Campell on January 5, 1934 . She graduated from Mannings High School in Savlamar located in the Parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica, and did her early training as a nurse at Kingston Public Hospital.
She married Quince Barrett and had three daughters, Lois, Hope and Denise. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s (ARNP) degree in Health Service Administration. She worked as a Certified Nurse Midwife for Jacobi Hospital in New York City for many years before moving to Florida where she worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital at both the Birth Center and Jackson North Maternity Center for over 20 years until retiring. She also received the Certified Nurse Midwife of the Year Award in during her tenure at Jackson. She was a proud member of the Jamaican Nurses Association and Service Employee International Union (SEIU).
Vivia is preceded in death by her mother Gladys and former husband Quince.
Vivia is survived by daughters, Lois, Hope and Denise and Grandsons Shemaiah, Shaquille, and Reginald, Great-Grandson Kingston and Sister Sheila and Maria.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 1:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, FL 33024. Arrangements are by Fred Hunter.
