Yvonne Beverly Grant

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Yvonne Beverly Grant of Palmetto Bay, Florida, on the 24th of February, 2024, at the age of 77. Born in Mandeville, Jamaica, Yvonne was a beacon of knowledge and radiated devotion, joy, and love throughout her extraordinary life.

An alumna of the University of Miami with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Special Education, Yvonne dedicated her life to the noble profession of teaching. Her career was both expansive and impressive. She was a cherished teacher and administrator in the Miami-Dade County Public School System. She contributed to educational programs across Region 4 and was recognized for her service with a Certificate of Appreciation.  Her work extended beyond the classroom as an entrepreneur. She co-founded Your Choice Tutor and founded the Jamaica Association of Dade Educators.  

Yvonne brought a champion spirit not only to her professional endeavors but also to her personal passions. As a former netball and track and field star, in every arena, she celebrated her Jamaican roots and her zest for life.

Yvonne was also a loving matriarch, survived by her devoted children Celia Simone Sloan, Kerry-Ann Patrice Grant, and Andre Pierre Grant, as well as her adored grandchildren Violet Sloan, Joshua Sloan, Paris Grant, Ashley Grant, Aries Grant, Hana Grant, and Arya Grant. Her legacy further lives on through her cherished siblings Elaine Guthrie, Sonia Herring, Candy Strachan, Carlton Guthrie, Ian Guthrie, Howard Guthrie, Olive Simms, Keith Guthrie, Doreen Witter, Marcel Henry, Gloria Campbell, and Audrey Riley.  Is survived by husband, Oran D. Grant.

She was also a woman who found joy in travel, beauty in her garden, rhythm in music, and elation in dance. Yvonne left her mark not only in the hearts of her family but also in the communities she so passionately served.

Visitation services to honor Yvonne will be held at Fred Hunter’s Hollywood Memorial Garden Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life will follow the next day, Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., where Yvonne's remarkable life will be commemorated. The service, led by Reverend Orville Segree, welcomes relatives and friends to join in remembrance.
