

Alice Alford Stewart was welcomed into heaven on Saturday, August 21 after a long illness. Born in Doerun, Georgia on March 11, 1933, the youngest of nine children. Alice moved with her family to Gadsden, AL and graduated from Gadsden High School. In Gadsden, she met the love of her life, Jack Stewart. Married in 1952, they lived with their children in Gadsden, moved to Warren, Ohio in 1966 and retired to Birmingham, AL in 1982.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie and James Alford, and seven siblings: Roberta, Jimsie, Jim, Dick, Paul, Joel and Lem. Her husband, Jack, died in 2001. She is survived by her loving children Kent (Julie) and Allison and her beloved grandchildren Tanner and Taylor (fiancé Jeremy Stelmack), her sister Helen (Wayne) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She loved her church, Mountain Brook Baptist, and was an active member of the Mellowbrook Singers. She also looked forward every summer to helping with Vacation Bible School at the church. Following the Alabama Crimson Tide was a passion and she never missed watching a football game.
Services are at Mountain Brook Baptist Church Friday, August 27, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be prior to the service at noon at the church.
