

Anne Elizabeth Tolleson Stowe was a beloved member of her family and a wonderful mother to her three girls. Her joyful spirit affected all who came in contact with her, and she was dearly loved by all who knew her. She loved her family, her faith, and her friends with deep devotion and loyalty. She was a homemaker and loved cooking for and being with family and friends. Her kitchen was often a bustle of activity, and the table filled with voices and people happy to gather for one of her home-cooked meals.
She was born December 1, 1930, to Myrtle and Clifford Whitfield, and after their untimely death was raised by her loving grandparents, Essie Frances and Stephen Luther Tolleson. She attended Inglenook Grammar School and graduated from Philips High School in 1949. On August 4, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart. She worked at Samford University for 12 years as secretary to Dean Sizemore and later to the basketball coaches. In 1995, she graduated from Samford University. She was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church for fifty-four years.
At the age of 93, on August 22, 2024, Anne went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, sister, many beloved aunts and uncles, and her oldest daughter, Cheryl Anne McVea. She is survived by her daughters Cynthia Leah Roper (Tim) and Susan Elizabeth Schor (Mike), and her 5 grandchildren, Sean Michael McVea, Summer Anne Schor, John Michael Schor III, Susanna Joy Schor, and Matthew Josiah Schor.
Her memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Visitation will be at 1 pm, service at 2 pm, and the graveside immediately following at Forest Hills Cemetery.
