

Randle, Barbara McDowell Harris Smith, age 90. Born in Birmingham, AL on March 9, 1925, she was the daughter of Charles Lawson Harris and Sabra Martin Harris. She is preceded in death by Robert F. Smith and her beloved William S. Randle. She is survived by her daughters, Shelby S. Smith and Cynthia S. Cifuentes; three grandchildren, Alexander Smith, Shelby Turnbough and Eve Jakoboski; five great-grandchildren, Alexandra Turnbough, Claudia Turnbough, Mallory Smith, Zachary Smith and Cordelia Jakoboski; and two step-daughters, Jane Sligh and Barbara Reaves.
Mrs. Randle held a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama and an undergraduate degree from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She attended the New England Conservatory of Music and the Actor’s Theatre Summer Playhouse in Nantucket, MA. She taught music and drama at Fairfield High School and was a Counselor at W.A. Berry High School. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, AL, The Jamestowne Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution – Princess Sehoy Chapter, Belvedere Study Club, Sprig O’ Holly Garden Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 13th at 1:00 p.m. with a reception following the service at Ridout’s Valley Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to National Public Radio or Alabama Public Television.
