

Birmingham, Alabama where she spent her entire life. She graduated from Ramsay High School and
soon after married her high school sweetheart, Thomas (Tommy) Evan Watkins who departed for
Heaven in the year 2000. Their marriage of fiftythree
years produced five loving childrenThomas
Mark Watkins (Gretchen), Stephen Watkins, Jane Watkins Sharp (Jim), John Evan Watkins (Tracey),
Dan Amberson Watkins (Kathy). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, three great
grandchildren, and two sistersMattilene
Lawrence and Imogene Hicks (Joe), both of Vestavia Hills.
Her youngest sister, Barbara Burg (Eddie), passed away in 1987.
Betty and Tommy were charter members of Liberty Church where they both selflessly served the
Lord and others. She served as President of Aglow Ministries for Christian Women where she
ministered to women in love and truth. Betty loved to play the piano, sing, and express her love of
Christ through poetry. She was a member of the Birmingham Civic Chorus and Sweet Adelines and
sang in the alto section for each.
The Celebration of her life will include a Visitation at RidoutsValley
Chapel on Monday, January 12
from 57
pm. Her funeral service will be held at Liberty Church (2732 Old Rocky Ridge Road) on
Tuesday, January 13 at 11:00 am with a brief viewing beginning at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Liberty Church Missions Fund at the church address
(see above).
