Caroline Wood Alford, 92 of Homewood, passed away on the 3rd of September 2019. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 26, 1927 to the late Eugene Herbert Wood and Nina Ligon Wood. She attended Ensley High School and was a graduate of Los Angles High School and attended the University of Alabama. Caroline was a long time faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Caroline will be remembered for her deep, abiding love for her family. Her greatest joy in life was the time spent with her family and will be remembered for being a devoted sister and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Caroline was loved by all that she touched.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 55 years James Horace Alford and her sister Jean Wood Martin. She is survived by her four children Carol Ann Owen (Gary), Jimmy Alford, Jean Elizabeth Hayes (Tim) and Alan Alford (Kathy), her eight grandchildren: Gary Owen Jr. (DeAnna) James Alan Owen (Traci), Christy Hayes, Daniel Hayes (Alexandria) David Hayes (Frances), Charles Michael Alford, Alex Alford and Taylor Alford. Also left to treasure memories are her five great grandchildren: Garrett and Ella Owen, Baxter and Harltey Owen and Olivia Hayes; her lifelong fiend Willie Mae Stinson and her caregivers Deborah Jenkins, Joyce Ford, Donna Dubose and Helen Njoroge.
Friends are cordially invited to join the family for a gathering to remember Caroline on 5th of September 2019 from 12 o’clock until 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood with the funeral service to follow at 1 o’clock with the Rev. Bobby Scales officiating. The Committal will immediately follow, via an escorted cortege, at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
The family request in lieu of customary remembrances, memorials in her honor may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church.
