
Mr. Walter Carroll Gardner, Jr. (87) of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on December 20, 2018 in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Carroll Gardner Sr. and Pauline Sanders Gardner; and his sister, Anne Gardner Travis. A devoted and loving father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia (Patti) Reed Gardner; and sons: Richard “Dick” (Donna), Mike (Nancy), Jim (Millie), and David “Chip” (Faith) Gardner; grandchildren: Will (Mary), Jamie, John David (Mal), Josh (Emily), Katie, Jared, Mary, David and Anna Frances Gardner; great grandchildren: Jackson, Sam, Reed, Ben, Max, J.J., Luke, Mims and Silas Gardner.0
Carroll served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany at the end of World War II. Upon his return, he was a life insurance agent with New England Life and Pittman & Associates. His lifetime of involvement with Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church, Alabama Emmaus Community and Boy Scout Troop 213 had a positive impact on many lives.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mickey Morgan and Rev. Rusty Glasgow officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 at the church.
