Born on July 27, 1933, to Charles Allan and Dorothea Lindsay Allan, he was a proud graduate of Shades Valley High School and the University of Alabama. While at Alabama, he was an active member and social chairman of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. A devoted Crimson Tide fan, his passion for Alabama football was lifelong, and he could almost always be found cheering in the stands at home games and bowl games alike.
On August 27, 1954, Gene married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Ann Wynn. The two shared a beautiful life together until her passing on February 6, 2009.
Gene began his successful career with Anderson Electric Corporation as marketing manager. The company was later acquired by Square D, where he worked until his retirement.
Outside of work, Gene and Margaret Ann shared a love for travel, including a memorable journey to Scotland to discover his family roots. However, his absolute favorite places to be were relaxing on the beach, spending a day on the golf course, or being in the woods hunting.
Gene also had a tender heart for animals, especially dogs, and he found great comfort and companionship in the dogs he loved throughout his life. Beyond his hobbies, Gene’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was immensely proud of his three girls, three grandsons, and seven great-grandchildren. Attending sporting events for each of these three generations brought him his absolute happiest moments and fulfillment.
A man of deep faith, he was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church, where he dedicated his time to serving others, including participating in mission trips.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, Alabama. Commencing at 11:00 am. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation beginning at 10 am as we celebrate Gene and our Lord together. His grandson, Reverend Hunter Twitty, will officiate the service along with longtime friend Dr. Bryant Strain. A private graveside service will be held for the family.
Those left to cherish his memory and remember his unwavering kindness include his daughters, Linda Mason, Marcia Twitty (Jar), and Tricia Goldman (Dennis); grandchildren, Hunter Twitty (Elizabeth), Thomas Twitty (Mary Ashley), and Allan Mason (Jordan); and great-grandchildren, Sam Twitty, Mae Twitty, William Twitty, David Twitty, Maggie Kate Twitty, Rowan Mason and Marlow Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Ann; and his son-in-law, Phillip Mason.
The family wants to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Longleaf Liberty Park and Enhabit Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations be made to your favorite charity.
