
Dr. Charles Moreland Head, age 84, died on May 26, 2014. Dr. Head was born in Columbus, Georgia and was raised in Phoenix City, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama and from University of Alabama in Birmingham, School of Medicine. After his internship in Columbus, GA, he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Shreveport, LA and practiced in Jackson, MS for 26 years. He and his wife Jan moved to North Carolina, where he continued to practice until he retired in 1995. He loved classical music, Crimson Tide football, golf and was a founding member of Annandale Golf Club. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends.
Dr. Head is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Mitchell Head, son, William “Billy” Loderick Head (Miyong); daughters, Leslie Head Matheson (Jack) and Kristi Head Sutton; grandchildren: Brittany Thames, Janet Christine Matheson, Mary Ann Matheson, Sarah Frances Matheson, John Daniel Matheson, Lauren Grace Sutton, James Christopher Sutton, great granddaughter Sophia Teagan Roberts, and by his brother Roy Head.
A visitation will be Thursday, March 29, 2014 in the church parlor of Canterbury United Methodist Church beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service following in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood, AL.
