Charlotte S Murdock

She is predeceased by both parents and her two older brothers, Richard James Stockham Jr and William Henry Stockham.

She is survived by her children Rev Catherine Schiesz, deacon in Florence, Alabama, Dr Jane Murdock (Leesha Faulkner) of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Mary Murdock Smith of Birmingham, Alabama. Survived also by grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth Schiesz (Atlanta), Mary Catherine Schiesz (Denver), William James Schiesz (Florence), Laurence Hailey Smith (Dauphin Island), Claire Rushton Smith (Birmingham) and John Declan Peters Smith (Birmingham). One great grandchild Maci Ann Varnell (Florence).

She attended Brooke Hill School and Ramsey High School. She was a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Charlotte loved Birmingham and served her community through many organizations including the Junior League of Birmingham, United Way of Central Alabama serving on the Allocations Committee for many years, Daughters of the American Revolution (Old Elyton Chapter), Colonial Dames, The Linley Heflin Unit, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Family and Child Services, Children’s Aid Society and Interfaith Hospitality House.

She was a lover of obituaries, crossword puzzles, knitting, gardening and bridge. She will be missed by many, but most of all by her companion Rusty Russell.

She was a member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, where she baked bread for “Charlotte’s Toast” served at breakfast each week, and was a faithful member of the Altar Guild where she lovingly took care of the altar linens for as long as we can remember, Y’all, learn to iron!

Services will be held at the Cathedral Church of the Advent on Friday, May 31 at 3:00, with visitation at 2:00.
