

Coquette Beran Barnes age 80 of Mountain Brook passed away on May 30, 2017. Coquette was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a former fashion model in Chicago. She was also a flight attendant for TWA. She married William Herbert Barnes Senior in 1960. Coquette built her life around helping other people. She was past president of Spain Rehabilitation, Birmingham Ladies Golf Association, and the YWCA. She and her husband Bill adopted one of Birmingham's elementary schools and over the years took students on field trips all over the state of Alabama. She and Bill also provided college scholarships each year at Bill's alma mater, Sewanee. She was a member of the Gaieties Club, Hill N Dale Garden Club, Clipped Wings, La Lumiere Literary Club, St Mary's Garden Club, Birmingham Aero Club, Southern Museum of Flight, and the Country Club of Birmingham. She was an instrument rated pilot and flew with her husband Bill all over our country. She was a long time member of St Mary's on the Highlands and was preceded in death by her parents, Henry G Beran her father and her mother Alice M Beran. She is survived by her sister Valerie Wienke of Dunnellon, Fl, her husband William Herbert Barnes Sr, son William Herbert Barnes Jr, two daughters Lorraine Barnes Tutwiler, Tracy Barnes Hayden, and eight grandchildren Tracy Tutwiler, Kelley Tutwiler, Lorraine White, Alex White, Ryan White, Beran Hayden and William Bradford Barnes, one great grandchild Noah Allen Chanthapanya. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St Mary's church, YWCA, or Spain Women's Committee. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am at St Mary's on the Highlands Friday June 2, with visitation to follow.
