Doris Jean (Barber) Kirkwood

Doris Jean (Barber) Kirkwood, age 82, of Pleasant Grove, Alabama passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Doris was born October 9, 1939 to Clarence "Pete" Barber and Minnie Lou Holmes Barber in Birmingham, AL.

Doris attended Minor High School and after graduation she later went on to further her career as Senior Secretary for Jefferson County Inspection Services where she later retired from after 20 years of dedication. She was an active member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school up until recently. Among many of her talents, her love for sewing, embroidery and quilting will be passed down for years to come. The love she showed for her family will never be forgotten, spending time with them brought her great joy. Doris's family will continue to celebrate her memory as they watch the Crimson Tide and know she is cheering from above.

Doris is preceded in death by parents, Clarence "Pete" Barber and Minnie Lou Homes Barber; brother, Clarence "Ray" Barber.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 62 years, Walter Raymond Kirkwood; children, Carolyn Green (Jim), Lisa Miller, Walter Kirkwood Jr. (Shawnette); sister, Diane McCay (Billy); grandchildren, Jim Green Jr., David Green, Erika Ward Gilchrist, Keila Kirkwood Perry, Kayla Kirkwood, Sarah Miller, Jade Kirkwood; six great grand children; sister-in-law, Anita Kirkwood, and five nieces and nephews.

The family would be honored to have memorial donations sent to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church at 452 9th Ave, Pleasant Grove, AL 35127.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from ten o'clock in the morning to eleven o'clock in the morning at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 452 9th Ave, Pleasant Grove, AL 35127. A funeral service in her honor will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at eleven o'clock in the morning at the church. A committal service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, 600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211.
