

Doug Powell passed away peacefully at home with family on Friday afternoon. Born in Klamath Falls, OR, Doug grew up in the nearby farming community of Tulelake, California. He graduated from Chico State University with a Marketing Communications degree and went on to showcase his creative talents with top firms in the Bay Area before relocating to Atlanta in 1985 and starting DM Powell and Associates, a branding and marketing firm.
In 2002, the Powell’s moved to Homewood, Alabama with wife Elaine, to raise their two children Aaron and Sarah.
Doug’s passion for life included a love of bird hunting, bird dogs, painting and coaching youth sports. Doug’s generosity with his time and resources made a difference in many lives. Most importantly he cherished relationships with family, friends and the soon to be friends he befriended with every stranger he met.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Powell, and is survived by mother, Colleen Metz Shaffer (Spokane, WA) , wife Elaine Powell , children, Aaron Kirk and Sarah Powell; sister and brother in law Kristen and Mike Victorine ( Pierce, ID) nephews Donovan (Kelly) and Devon (Samantha) Victorine.
A reception honoring Doug’s life will be held Saturday, November 14 from 3-6pm at the Powell home.
