Eileen S. Griffin

Eileen S. Griffin, 79, of Homewood AL, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 19, 2021. She was born on June 20, 1942, in New York City, NY to parents, Gustavo Schmidt and Mary Duane. Eileen graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama in 1960 and attended the University of Alabama. Eileen then made her career as a legal secretary in Birmingham until her retirement at age 75.

Eileen married the love of her life, Wayne Griffin, in 1974 and raised their 5 children in their Homewood family home of 47 years. Eileen is survived by her devoted husband Wayne Griffin, and their children, H. Lea Cockerham IV (Homewood, AL), Kristin V. Franco (Scottsdale, AZ), Kimberly T. Cockerham (Phoenix, AZ), David W. Griffin (Atlanta, GA) and Mary Faith Martin (Greenville, SC). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, her brother, Duane Schmidt (Birmingham, AL), and her nephew Michael Schmidt (Leeds, AL).

A viewing ceremony will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Rideout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, AL. Funeral Services for Eileen will follow at 2 pm. In lieu of floral gifts, the family requests that donations in honor of Eileen be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
