

Jean Chase, 75, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jean was born, raised, and lived in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the daughter of Robert G. Vick “Bob” and Roxie Dix Vick “Rockie”. She graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1968. After a year at Jacksonville State University, she transferred to Samford University where she was a member of Chi Omega. Although it was at Jacksonville State where Jean found the love of her life and best friend, Terry Chase. They met on a blind date on Halloween night and were together from then on. Jean and Terry married on June 11, 1971, at Briarwood Presbyterian Church and were together for 52 years before Terry’s passing last year.
Jean began her career working for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company before moving to Saunders Leasing Systems (Truck Central) where she stayed for 14 years. After a short stint working for Hall Thompson at Shoal Creek Country Club, she moved over to Chace Lake Country Club where she worked for 24 years as an accountant and administrative assistant. However, you could also find her filling in at most other areas of the club.
Jean joined the Princess Sehoy Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1991. She served as the Public Relations chairperson for her first two years in the club and most recently as the chapter’s Chaplain. With a love for horses, Jean and Terry managed the Flying High Stables for many years where they also kept their 3 horses. Having no children of their own, the rest of their menagerie included, over time, 3 poodles, many adopted dogs and cats, and the most amazing, smart and loving Rottweiler and Doberman you could ever ask for. Jean enjoyed traveling through Eastern and Western Europe and with Terry on many cruises around the Caribbean and U.S. She also loved to garden and was a member of The Country Garden Club. She and Terry enjoyed socializing and dancing with their friends as members of The Club, the Concordia Beneficial Society, the Vikings and Cheramis dance clubs, the Metropolitan Dinner Club of Greater Birmingham, and Riverchase Country Club.
Jean and Terry were members of Briarwood for over 50 years and most recently served as Sunday greeters. They were members of the Discovery Sunday school class and the FULL group Bible study. Jean especially loved being with her Tuesday morning Bible study group and welcomed friendships with every one of the members.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Rockie Vick, and her husband, Terry Chase. She is survived by her brother, Robert Vick (Lynn), nephew, Gardner Vick, niece Lindsay Vick Bru (Baker), great-nephew, Carson Bru, many cousins, and her faithful cat, Elmer Fuzz.
A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. A private burial service will be held the following day at Elmwood Cemetery.
