

Frances Lindsey Ruth, age 95, passed from this life on December 22, 2020. Ama, as she was lovingly known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. After graduating from Sidney Lanier High School, she attended Auburn University. In 1947, she married Charles Leon Ruth III and became a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery, where she served as President of the Women of the Church, taught Sunday School and assisted with EYC. She and Charles were also members of the Montgomery Country Club. As a member of the Montgomery Junior League, she served as President of the Professional Members. During WWII, she served as a RCNA. After the War, she made a career as an architectural drafts person for the Alabama Highway Department and later with other private architectural firms. She was happily married to Charles Leon Ruth III for 40 years until his death in 1987. Frances moved to Birmingham in 1997 to be closer to her two daughters and grandchildren who were living in Birmingham.
Frances is predeceased by her parents, Martin Jefferson Lindsey and Frances Mae Harrington and two brothers, Terrell Haywood Lindsey and Ernest Jefferson Lindsey. She is survived by her daughters, Lindsey Ruth Barclift (Bill) and Sandra Leigh Ruth, granddaughter, Mary Frances Osborn of Birmingham and grandson,Will Barclift (Samantha Oliver) of Tyron, North Carolina, as well as great grandchildren, Mary Tristen Osborn and Layton Edward Osborn of Birmingham.
There will be a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery, Auburn University or to one’s favorite charity.
